some images get weirdly cropped, it would be best to try and avoid that. there's probably a better strategy for positioning those images...ideally without resorting to something like computer vision...

with the new emphasis on events as brief updates, where images are not essential, we can just check that the images satisfy some minimum-resolution threshold, otherwise it is forgone
