After running my reactor for a bit for running drills (was using the MX-0) I shut it off. I then decided, for roleplaying, I wanted to store the reactor in such a way that it was safely disposed. When taking it off of the vehicle it was attached, core heat instantly shoots to maximum and destroys the core making it impossible to reuse.

Putting it into an inventory and taking it out again (as fast as you can lol) does not change this. It will still destroy its own core.
