The detail page for countries, e.g. https://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/ui/details.html?osmtype=R&osmid=52939&class=boundary&hierarchy=1 shows a button 'display child places' but that leads do 'Place is not parent of other places'.

Of course a country has child places just no link in the Nominatim data.

Should we hide the link to avoid confusion? Show a different message? Run a different database query?

Nominatim's parent concept is in general not exactly what you would expect. Most importantly: it does not create a full hierarchy of all places. So countries are not the only objects, where it might lead to confusion. It is only meaningful where a rank 30 place is the child. We could reduce the view to only show those.
