We now have an official Zulip chat server

Our application for sponsorship as an open source organization was recently accepted, so we now have an official Zulip server!

Zulip is an open source chat platform. It is similar to Discord and Slack in many ways, but is more organized and searchable due to its threading model. It is also publicly viewable in a browser without creating an account, lowering the barrier to entry for community interaction.

The official Discord server is not going anywhere, but it is likely that development discussions among maintainers and contributors will gradually shift over to Zulip because of the aforementioned advantages.
