Its been a bit, and russia banning discord means what little I talked to grim is interrupted; im confused about adrs odc plans actaully are, and things have changed slowly over the last year but it is yet another year where things were stagnant upstream. etc.

goals for the new year and whos around and what code do people want and what code does everyone have?

datastructures + algorithms = programs

Im entirely on board with template hell for this goal with a modified range api

I wrote 5 data structures with a "front, popFront, empty, key" api these in theory will ship soonish, I have a test algorthims lib with a (failed) experimental api with 50ish algorithms

This is my main disagreement with upsteam(its been a DECADE waiting on allocators) and I imagine 90% of poeple reading this have heard me rant about the subject

Serialization

I believe this should be solved by a recursive meta program with a replacement for "std.conv" that has better "fail safe" behavior and defining very dumb formats like "usv"

(when I demoed this a forever ago std.conv struct.to!string would add spaces then string.to!int fails with spaces, just bad design)

I have some code for solving the overloading problems with handling all types, but honestly its very unmotivating and I dont make much progress

I believe adr and grim have several more traditional(webshit) formats between them

I already implemented serialization primitives in https://github.com/opendlang/d/blob/main/source/odc/serialization/package.d
It contains everything needed to bootstrap a serializer, eg

auto ser = serializableFields!MyType;

With this you can make a serializer fairly quickly. Included json serialziation impl https://github.com/opendlang/d/blob/main/source/odc/serialization/json.d

Debugging

I got very unmotivated to work on it and probably bit off more then I can chew, especially in winter

I believe debugging to be an important topic, but kinda personal; there should probably be some attempt to improve the situation however; cause debuggers do just sux, tools just sux, everyones workflows just sux, and even my prefered printf debugging depends on terminals which, get this, sux

Completely unrelated, but please, do prefer GH discussions over Discord. Its not persistent, not publicly visible and difficult to search. Things get lost when discussed there. I've seen it so many times in many projects
