I'm in favor of the cube, not so much of the thick green border lines, and I can still see the thin light blue lines.

IMO, the boxed logo 2 should be with borders because consistency AND better definition in dark themes. This is a screenshot in my github dark page, seems that the logo is not easy to identify:

Thanks for the note! None of us have taken into account the dark mode, so both options 1 and 2 should take that into account if they are chosen.

I voted for the least bad option, but I'm not really convinced by any of the logos.
The navy blue background is too dark for my taste. Of course, this is perhaps more a branding debate than an icon selection debate.
What is clear to me is that the letters OCA should appear, because we are not so famous that this new logo is automatically associated with OCA...

Actually, we need to get things done.

Regarding the current proposition, the poll was mainly done because the "plain logo" proposition that I made initially was not accepted by Pedro because he wanted to have a 3D cube.

From the result on the poll, it is okay to get rid off the cube (67% of people voted for options 1 or 2, with plain logo, 104 votes in total).

Due to issue with the mailing list, the message to ask for voting was delayed... so we are later than the initial schedule.

Anyway, we cannot have everyone give his preferences here. The goal of the initial PR is to update the old logo with new logo, and make it better looking.

That is why I won't update the poll, otherwise we are still discussing this in the next 3 weeks and everyone has better things to do for the OCA, I suppose.

Taking into account the feedback received here, I will update the logo with the logo+OCA letters, with navy background, rounded square, with a white border around to have a contrast in the case of dark mode.

When we designed the OCA logo at Kapreon agency, we had already considered its main uses to ensure it worked across different supports. A brand with a strong identity doesn’t just place its logo everywhere—it builds a visual universe around it.

At this point, we’re not really talking about design anymore, but about a logo being stretched in every direction. A strong brand doesn’t slap its logo on everything; it creates a graphic system that maintains consistency. That’s what prevents last-minute adjustments and endless debates.

With a clear strategy from the start, all this energy could have been spent elsewhere. Looking forward to seeing the final result!

Let's jump in this conversation to clarify the "OCA-position" related to the branding.

We asked Kapreon to work on the logo only in 2023, and we got a super nice and beautiful new logo, thanks again!

In 2024, I asked for an offer to work on the full branding with a list of things to get created/clarified. Note that the logo on the OCA module was forgotten and not included in the offer I requested, if I remember well.

The offer received was too expensive in regards of the priorities of the 2024 year and I asked many questions/precisions because I thought the offer was not exactly answering our needs (feeling like asking a lot to gather what had already been done, and for example having to pay a recurrent fee to get our branding uploaded on a dedicated website).

This is why we have not worked on the full branding right now, and we will certainly work on this when I feel we will absolutely need it, and it might not be with Kapreon neither.

Right now the money is spent on internal resources (general secretary/event manager, content creator & training manager, myself as executive director) and on OpenUpgrade project (a dedicated team is working on this since several months) in priority, in order to produce direct value to our members, sponsors and contributors, with the focus on having more members/sponsors/(new program for integrators still wip) to get recurrent revenues in order to, in the end, make our contributors' lives easier and build predictable maintenance and user-friendly content to help adopt the OCA contributions.

To answer @RomainJoliveau I didn't want to ask for a free advice and contact Kapreon, not being able to pay them (we are not from the same family, unlike you!).

Hope this clarifies the situation regarding the "branding" question.

Now I would propose to close this discussion as the initial goal has been reached and we got enough approvals to pursue with the changes in the PR.

• ''we recommended setting up guidelines for how the logo should vary and be used'' (ok for this one the graphic charter is not free but it's an essential tool, as a content creator myself, I refer to it when I create visual content -> no need to ask family for free advice or to pay an agency, I'm doing my work independant -> maybe something OCA needs to ''all we can do internally is done internally'' as Virginie said)
• ''don’t just place the same logo on every application [...] each app icon has its own identity [...] It’s a coherent yet flexible system that embodies the brand’s spirit and helps users easily distinguish each app'' (no need to put the logo everywhere so lets be imaginative with vector icons, stickers... that have the OCA DNA)

There are tons of websites with free or insignificant price svg icons, and you can try to apply all these advices from a designer who is also the OCA logo creator you paid in the past... These icons are very used and common, but that's a good start and time saving versus everybody trying to contribute with something that doesn't look professional (because they're not designers) + days of poll and discussion... That ends like that?!

I don't know a lot about OCA and it's my first time in a discussion.
Why answers feel like people are mad and not open to advice? This doesn't make me want to participate again (maybe that's your message)

All this discussion is free and can bring other OCA people (some with design background?) to the discussion and you want to close it?

In my opinion, the community has bigger challenges ahead. The debate around the OCA logo on icons is valid, but it shouldn't distract us from what truly matters..... I agree on closing this chapter and moving forward.

I closed the discussion because Virginie asked me to do that. I created the discussion in order to go ahead on a PR that needed some extra discussion and a poll. Once it was finished, I think it is legit to close the Poll (the only option was to close the discussion).

This was intended to be fast in order to proceed with other topics. It might be interesting to proceed with the logo discussion, why not... But as it has been stated, there are other priorities right now. If you want to discuss further in the logo evolution, there are two options:

1- Create a new Discussion topic
2- Get involved in the marketing workgroup (probably the best choice). Virginie answered before how to involve yourself on that
