In February 2022, the developers of McBopomofo and OpenVanilla decided to permanently ban several accounts that had been disrupting the community of our open source projects.

We won’t name the accounts but their acts. The acts of those accounts have violated our Code of Conduct, GitHub’s Community Guidelines, and GitHub’s Terms of Service, many times over a long period.

The acts include: making disrespectful pull requests (PRs); making PRs from fake accounts; sneaking in or hijacking discussions with those fake accounts; disparaging other users’ needs; slandering others in their pull requests and created issues; harassing McBopomofo developers using their PRs and created issues; improper use of other people’s intellectual properties; vandalizing McBopomofo’s discussion board; use of indecent, sexual, or discriminatory languages in their issues, PRs, screenshots, or account avatars; feeding other users, in a tone as if they were McBopomofo developers, false, misleading, or irresponsible technical information; using McBopomofo’s issue tracker and discussion board for their private note-taking or as a support forum for their forked project; leaving gratuitous cross-referencing links to McBopomofo’s existing issues or PRs from their forked project; mass editing or deleting of their own comments after having used unbecoming language; claiming in passive-aggressive language that McBopomofo or other open source projects should meet their personal needs or agenda; claiming that they could modify in any manner an MIT-licensed open source project. The acts have multiplied persistently since November 2021.

What’s more, we have received uninvited emails from them. The emails used discriminatory language to insult, threaten, and harass us.

We have tried to reason with them out of professionalism, but all the persistently disrespectful acts and vandalism led us to believe that they were unwilling to change. It also led us to believe that they were not acting in good faith.

We believe that any reasonable person would interpret the acts as infringements or harassments. Those acts have also abused the trust McBopomo’s users and contributors have in our community, and the acts have been downright disruptive to our users and contributors.

Thus, to maintain order, we have reported the acts to GitHub and have locked the conversations of all relevant PRs, issues, and discussions to preserve evidence. Following the enforcement guidelines of our Code of Conduct and GitHub’s moderation guidelines, we hereby ban those accounts permanently.
