Meeting Record - 8-Aug, 7am Pacific

@edrob999 welcomed everyone to the meeting. This is the first community meeting we have had for a while. Looking forward - we are planning to have them monthly, last-Thursday-of-the-month. Next meeting will be Aug 29th, at 7am. As @angellk suggests, we will put the "next meeting" info in the org Readme.

Sandbox application

@avishnu gave an update of archiving and re-applying to Sandbox

• CNCF archived OpenEBS February. See #1051
• We archived repositories that belonged to old versions of OpenEBS, and moved them to a new Github Org: OpenEBS-archive. This reduced repos in OpenEBS from 75 to about 30: Replicated Mayastor, 3 stable Local PV engines, plus Rawfile Local PV which is undergoing work to bring to same level of maturity as other engines
• After this restructuring, in April we released 4.0 with new form factor
• We also made changes to governance, unified documentation (it used to be different webstes for each engine)
• We're hoping to have the Sandbox application approved before Kubecon (Salt Lake November).
• Question: will the OpenEBS team be at Kubecon? We hope so!

Releases

4.1 released last month, with lots of new features including replica snapshots/restores for Mayastor

Roadmap

4.2 is expected in Q4, and we're panning:

• Mayastor: encryption, RDMA, on-pool expansion
• Local engines: LVM, HostPath, ZFS: Hardened CI systems
• Most of the engineering is still focused on Mayastor, as this is our newest engine, with a wider scope than the locals. Team is starting to conceptualize new features for the locals, and we need more contributors for this!
• Community can open issues against The roadmap document, maintainers recognized the roadmap needs formatting, to organize by engine type.

Technical issues

We had technical issues during the call, we will hold another community meeting in two weeks. We're committed to regular community forum. @avishnu has raised a ticket with CNCF to get access to Zoom. There are technical issues with uploading to YouTube, the team will need to resolve before we can publish vids.
