Problems with documentation and slack

Expected behaviour

To have a documentation that is complete and correct and to be able to join the slack channel.

Actual behaviour

• The link to join slack does not work and it returns a Error submitting 'already_in_team_invited_user' although I am not a member already. (However, I have to say the community responded very quickly and invited me! Thanks! :) )
• There is documentation in two websites https://opendatacube.readthedocs.io and https://datacube-core.readthedocs.io and it is not clear which is the one updated.
• The documentation is lacking many fields, among others:
  • The metadata schema does not contain information that a beginner can use
  • Trying out the dataset eo3 schema does not work (at least for me) and I had to add some eo fields, so the documentation is not clear enough
  • Many links are not leading anywhere. for example the scripts here https://opendatacube.readthedocs.io/en/latest/installation/data-preparation-scripts.html
  • The installation guide does not document some mandatory python libraries.

I can work on some fixes but since I am a beginner in ODC I don't think I can contribute so much yet

Hi @charalamm, thanks for reporting this. I really appreciate you taking the time to specifically point out areas of the documentation that are lacking.

The members of the Open Data Cube Steering Council are working on improving our documentation and website, although we are in the very early stages of this. I am hoping to develop some clear tasks that beginners will be able to help with.

You can see some of the activities we're working on to lower the barrier to entry for the ODC here.

As a beginner, we would really value any further thoughts you have on specific sections that you're finding difficult to understand or follow.

If there's further progress we make for the documentation, I will endeavor to comment on this issue again to update you.
