Codex Remote Control push notifications not delivered on iOS

What issue are you seeing?

Description

Codex completion and approval push notifications are not delivered to the ChatGPT iOS app when using Remote Control/App Server.

The Codex session itself works correctly, and events appear as foreground toasts when the Codex tab is open. However, no background push notification is received when a task completes or requires approval.

General push delivery is working on the same device and account: ChatGPT Scheduled Task notifications are successfully delivered by both push and email.

Actual behavior

No iOS push notification is delivered. Opening the Codex tab shows the updated task and foreground toast normally.

Expected behavior

A push notification should be delivered when a Codex task completes or requires approval.

Environment

• iOS: 26.5
• ChatGPT iOS version/build: [version]
• Codex App version: [version]
• Host OS: [macOS version]
• Remote Control/App Server: Enabled

Troubleshooting

• ChatGPT and Codex push notifications are enabled.
• Reinstalled the ChatGPT app.
• Restarted the iPhone.
• Re-paired the Codex host.
• Reproduced with both new and existing threads.
• Confirmed Scheduled Task push and email notifications work normally.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

1. Connect the ChatGPT iOS app to a Codex host using Remote Control/App Server.
2. Start a Codex task.
3. Put the ChatGPT app in the background and lock the iPhone.
4. Wait for the task to complete or request approval.

Reproduced on iPhone 14 Pro Max running iOS 26.5.2.

Initial test:

• ChatGPT iOS 1.2026.188 (29133674010)
• Reinstalled the app and signed in again
• All iOS and ChatGPT notification settings are enabled
• Regular ChatGPT Scheduled Task push notifications work normally
• In a brand-new Remote thread, approval prompts appear while the app is in the foreground
• When ChatGPT is backgrounded, no Remote approval push notification is received
• Opening ChatGPT immediately displays the pending approval

Retested after updating to ChatGPT iOS 1.2026.195, released July 21, 2026. The same issue still occurs.

This appears specific to Remote approval push delivery rather than general iOS notifications or Remote state synchronization.

I am also experiencing this issue. ChatGPT Work notifications arrive immediately on the same phone, but Codex Remote task-completion notifications do not arrive.

Observed during testing:

• Push notifications are enabled.
• ChatGPT was in the background on the iPhone (the phone was unlocked), not showing the conversation.
• A Codex task completed and posted its final completion message, but no phone notification appeared.
• ChatGPT desktop version on the Mac: 26.901.31953.

I have not recorded the iOS or ChatGPT iOS version yet, and I have not independently tested approval notifications. Is there a known fix, rollout status, or a recommended diagnostic to distinguish Remote push registration from server-side delivery failures?
