How to avoid lock escalation for chunk deletes in mssql?

Hello,

from a table with millions of rows I want to delete a few 10k without locking the table.
Is there a better way than wrapping a delete top 500 where... in a stored procedure, mapping and calling that in a loop?
The IQueryable delete doesn't work with Take: forgotten bug issue
Maybe a maintainer sees this and has a look at the old issue.
