Raw markdown editing #3570
Comments
Thanks for your report @timotoots. I'm pretty sure that there is already an issue for tracking this feature, but I failed to find it now when searching for it 🤔 |
There's #123, #323 and #815, all closed. Shall we keep this issue open or re-open one of the earlier ones? @max-nextcloud @juliushaertl |
I can not find a way to see and edit the raw file content within the editor. So we keep this issue open as feature request. |
Yes, this is not implemented yet. A few thoughts as I think it might make sense to have this at some point, however it is not on our roadmap so far. Contributions for this would of course be very welcome.
|
I see the issue if editing in collaborative mode. However, this would still be really useful. To start with, even obtaining an exclusive lock when |
The technical reasoning with collaborative editing sounds reasonable. |
Either on an instance wide admin defined level or file level would work, per user not as you could then have two users with different settings open the same file. |
I see why a good solution is complicated to implement. Is it easier to implement a way to copy markdown-source to the clipboard? |
@n8falke you can simply mark the section you want to copy and press control+c. That copies it to the clipboard. Then you can simply paste it into notepad or something like that. |
@JL710 control+c only copies the text and HTML version. The Idea was to get the markdown, i.e. to be used here, in a README.md or to edit it, copy and paste it back, to fix errors like described above. |
@n8falke when I paste the copied text into any normal text input, browser or local text editor, I get the raw markdown. With headings marked as with hashtags etc. |
@JL710 you are right if you use the headings, tables, lists, multi-line-source-code. Thanks for the hint that can help. I tested with bold text. Which is lost. Same seems to be with italic, |
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Sometimes markdown has non-standard elements that Text renders as it thinks is standard.
Describe the solution you'd like
A button "Edit raw" that would allow editing raw markdown.
