It would be very useful to be able to save one or more configurations of Custom Columns (column set and order) to avoid resetting them you start a new SCWB session. This could be saved within your local instance of SCWB or perhaps from a separate configuration file that you could load when you start SCWB.

based on discussion in the community call,
there are 2 approaches,

  1. Save changes on every column change
  2. Save changes on exit

Can we go with the 2nd one to start with

We should go for this as it's much more simpler and would still support most use cases.

Basically to summarize the discussion:

we want to have a config file (like a dotfile) created automatically on close and reopen by importing from it.
It should have the column order saved.

We could also have last opened file and other states that can be saved (like filters and selected directory in the file tree maybe if that is something required?) Just thinking if this would be nice, anyway it would be enhancements to a basic column order save.

Saving changes on exit works as the next step. I do not think that we need to worry about saving the specific state related to a particular Scan file. The use case is primarily to preserve the display configuration as you load different Scans.
