Design some exercises around bigger pieces of code (probably ones that do not require the code to be printed)
Design some exercises that look at code structure. As a group we did not find the indenting / colouring exercise useful, but we all agree there are considerations around structure and there is value in learning how to glance at a block of code and see immediately which parts go together in blocks. Maybe it was not useful because it's more for python or for beginners?

I've found it most helpful to just have the code at high-ish resolution in a .jpg/png, and use a new layer for each exercise in simple editor like Paint.net. If you turn down the layer opacity you can scribble and still see the code.
