Perhaps in their own table, underneath the table of files. It's just odd to click on a folder with several subfolders and see it apparently empty in that panel.

Good idea. I've pushed this. Do you also want users to be able to drag the folders in that table into subfolders, or leave those manipulations in the sidebar? For a UX perspective, I'm unsure where I stand, as dragging those table rows around might feel a little clunky. What do you think?
We're already dragging table rows for file sorting. From a UX perspective, if there's a parallel table of folders, and someone tries to drag a folder across, it should work. It doesn't matter that much though.
