Make releases easier by adding a step by step checklist.

Release Plan with dates published

  • alpha 1 (a1)
  • alpha 2 (a2)
  • alpha ...n (if needed for stability)
  • release candidate 1 (rc1)
  • release candidate 2 (rc2)
  • release final
  • first bugfix release

Alpha 1 (a1)

  • Set alpha date
  • Publicize alpha date
  • Focus on napari repo for alpha1
  • Create a changelog using the changelog generator script in the release tools repo and make a PR to the docs repo
  • Land any mergeable PRs
  • Pair on the actual release to pypi and conda-forge
  • Post about alpha release on social media, zulip and image.sc
