Are you happy with the recent changes to homebrew with the elimination of optional dependencies? I know you've apparently left the project, but just wondering on the thoughts of the creator of homebrew.

Not particularly. My vision for Homebrew was a flexible and useful tool. Over the years the maintainers have stripped away many of the “useful” bits in order to chase easier maintenance. I’d never do that, user-first is my attitude, always.

However, I’m not working on at it anymore, so it’s easy for me to criticize while they are the ones who are stepping up and dealing with the actual day-to-day issues.

Thank you for the response. The recent changes seem different than how homebrew was built and what attracted me to it in the first place so was wondering if it was still in line with the homebrew's creator's ideas on it.
