Emby as Music Provider

Hello, I would like to be able to use Emby Server as a music provider.

I tried adding Emby as a Jellyfin provider. It didn't work.
Had to spin up a Jellyfin server just for music.

You would be better served just allowing MA to access your music files directly

Not possible when server is remote and also doesn't allow to share playlist so pointless sorry to say :(

I don't know why you thumbs down the other users post. It was a useful contribution for others in the future.

And my post is not pointless. Just because you might have some reason to not use local files does not mean that it isn't preferable for those that don't have your constraints. I will assume you made a poor choice of words.

Thanks for both of your comments. It would be great to have a best practices section somewhere.

I wanted to use emby in the hope that I could reuse playlists and favorites. Its annoying to have to redo them for each new server and player that I'm trying out.

Giving MA access to my local files is an option since I'm using a VPN for remote access.

If Symfonium supported MA as a provider (or if MA had a mobile app that supported offline cache), then I think that MA with direct file access would be become you preferred music provider.

Hi. I maintain the Jellyfin provider. It works quite well for people running Jellyfin.

There was some interest in Emby via the Jellyfin provider - see music-assistant/server#1325. So it did work at one point. We are really hitting the places where those projects have diverged too much now and might be it will need its own provider. Or it could be that you have an unusual file in your emby library that breaks some assumption we have. It's not clear /why/ it didn't work for you.

If you have a folder full of music that is well tagged (using something like Picard) and you don't need any of the apps in the Jellyfin ecosystem (e.g. Finamp) then @OzGav is right, spinning up an entire Jellyfin just for music is probably not the best use of your resources. Personally, I run multiple MA's in different locations backed by the same "production" music library in Jellyfin (e.g. home, office over vpn, dev environment) whilst still using apps like Finamp etc as well. And i'd be running it anyway for other media. So it's unlikely i'd ever switch to files.
