I have a yamaha v-673 connecting via airplay and it turns on and off but can't seem to control the volume. any ideas?

The volume can not be controlled at all over airplay with music assistant. the slider moves but the volume does not change.

Hi, I have a Samsung S811b Soundbar. I can connect to the device, control the volume, play, pause everything works. the only problem is I cant hear any sound. The Smartthings App says it's playing from Airplay, it even shows the title and artist I'm trying to play.

I tried:

• using the encryption setting, but it didnt fix the problem
• other devices can airplay to the soundbar, so it doesn not seem to be the speakers problem

restart the server and try again, we have an issue on the backlog where airplay gets into a weird state after changing the settings.

Also: Airplay works to my DENON reciever, just not to the Soundbar.

For anyone still following this. This does not seem to be a Music Assistant problem.

Samsung seems to have implemented AirPlay 2 in a weird way, that it isn't fully backwards compatible.. users of similar applications like for example Roon and anything based on slimproto basically have the same problem.

Everything seems to work, changing volume, song info is shown, you can control the samsung device like expected, only problem is there is no sound.

FYI: AirPlay2 (sender) has not been reverse engineered so its not possible for an application like Music Assistant to send an Airplay2 audio stream so audio sent using the legacy Airplay 1/RAOP method, which under the hood is more or less the same for the audio bits as Airplay 2 is just a convenience layer on top of that.

Sending Airplay2 to a device is only possible from an actual Apple device, for example the spotify App on your phone or just the builtin controls for audio output on your Macbook.

Airplay 2 Audio devices should be backwards compatible and receive the Airplay 1 stream just fine. Actual Apple devices (e.g. Homepods) do this just fine but there are 3rd party implementations that have issues, such as the Samsung implementation mentioned here. There is nothing we can do about that.

I have multiple Bluesound speakers and streamers in LAN but 1 Bluesound Node player can't play music when other Node players work fine (They are purchased at the same time, so they are from the same generation). Actually, I still can play music from HA media source directly to the Bluesound player. But I can't use the virtual player that created by MASS for that specific devices from both HA media source or MASS.

Possible network error as the connection is lost. MA requires fairly high bandwidth. Can you use a wired connection to this speaker? If not then check the wifi coverage where it is located.

Thank you for your suggestion. I already check the network connection to speaker, it is fairly good.

I shall try to use wired connection with this speaker later and update the situation. Actually, this speaker is put together with another speakers in the same rack. Others work just fine. So I worry it is configuration issue when MASS create the virtual speaker for Airplay streaming.

This might be related to an open issue whereby some players are not sending their keep alive message and MA is therefore assuming the player is unavailable. Please see here #1247

Hi, i'm able to control my airport players and play music via MA server. Now i would like to control them via HA scripts, is that possible? All airport media player entities are somehow not available in the configuration menu (Sony tv for example is available) of the MA integration.

Hi everybody! Here Home Pod Mini shows up as a Generic Airplay Device, however after paying some music the device will go to status Idle and after some time to Unavailable. When Home Pod Mini is unavailable, I am unable to start a song from MA - nothing will happen when I choose the player inside MA. Is this something you guys are already aware of?

I can`t see why there should be a connection problem, because from within iOS or via Siri-voice command the HomePod can be reached without problems.

The logbook of the MA entity always shows the same:
Changed to Playing
Changed to Paused
Changed to Idle
Changed to Unavailable

At the point when the device is unavailable, there is no chance to start playback within MA again.
However the device entity seems to come back randomly after some time and then would be available for playback again. Very stange behaviour.

I think you might be experiencing the issue described here #1247

Marcel extended the timeout before a player is reported offline to 30 mins which seems to be what is happening in your graph above.

Note there is a lot of discussion in that issue about network problems so go through that and the troubleshooting FAQ and see if that is your problem.

FYI : using latest betas of both addon & integration.

My Airplay speaker gets autodetected, which is fine. HOWEVER : why does it appear ONCE in Player Configuration, but TWICE in the speaker selection list ? And why are there TWO media players created in Hass itself ? And why are these called media_player.xyz-2 & -3 - there is NO player with the same name (and without suffix) ?
One of these players seems completely unusable for anything ...

Furthermore : when changing anything in the Advanced settings for this player (e.g. an equalizer setting), this change cannot be saved, because it complains about 'The input is invalid', being about the 'Remote timeout' setting. Note that this setting was not changed at all, so still shows the '0' from the beginning. To make my own change stick, I have to change the 'Remote timeout' setting to any other value, then back to 0 - then I can save the lot without complaints. Go figure ...

The capitalisation was not meant to be shouting, only to pinpoint the main discrepancies.
Anyway, I hope the following screenshots help to make things clearer than I seem to have been able to before :

This shows the 2 Airplay devices 'discovered' by the integration (of the sole Airplay speaker I have), as well as the TV - which is not even discovered by the Hass Google Cast integration itself - which is my only enabled Mass Player Provider, apart from Airplay & Slimproto.

As you can see, both the second Airplay device and the TV do not appear amongst the Players in Settings.
Just as well you might say, but aren't these lists meant to be synchronized between integration and addon ?

Finally a screenshot of the annoying bug with the Advanced settings. It took me a while to find out why I never was able to make my changes stick, because the above error message only appears when you hit Save. And apart from being very unobtrusive, it is totally illogical of course, and therefore quite unexpected.

Is that screenshot supposed to be from an Airplay device? If so, what version are you running as the latest version has a slider...?

Yes it is - but as you'll notice, this dates back from 3 weeks ago, and thus from a previous version.
In the latest version I noticed the change to a slider - and above all : that the bug I reported had been solved at the same time.
I did not confirm this, as I imagined you knew best what you did ?
Anyway, nice it works now, continue the good work :-)

It is possible to add Bluetooth speakers in HA / Music Assistant?
Beside that I would like to stream from my phone or from my guest phone to the Music Assistant and than music assistant play in all the speakers, that is possible?

I haven’t done it but picoreplayer is supposed to be able to connect to Bluetooth speakers

if you have an esp32 wrover board, the squeezelite-esp32 could also be an option to stream to a bluetooth device: https://github.com/sle118/squeezelite-esp32
I am only using the squeezelite-esp32 with an adc, but it works well with MA.

Hello everyone!
I am still experiencing issues with Home Pod Mini, it keeps connecting/disconnecting - As Issue 1247 has already been closed and marked as resolved, I opened a new one today: Issue 1877
I recognized the new MA-setting for Airplay "Remove Timeout" - but that does not work for me. Also went through some network settings of my router (Synology SRM 1.3) and did some unsuccessful testing here and there but as I am not an expert in this field, I find it difficult to identify anything that is related to this specific problem.
Every help is very much appreciated.
