Issue type

Engraving bug (incorrect score rendering)

Description with steps to reproduce

There is a discrepancy in how default staff distances are calculated. It can be seen here that the distance from the upper Hrp stave to the Cym is greater than the distance from SD to Timp:

The distances should be the same.

Also, if you add 8 instruments, two of which are unpitched (single stave line) percussion, and then hit OK, the tips of the brackets touch/overlap each other. (Issue mentioned above)

I'm not sure if this is a related issue, because rather than unequal spacing, it is more an issue that there are no bracket collision preventing parameters in the first place. Putting a feature request here: I believe it would be good to have a setting in "Style" for regulating the distance between choirs of instruments. The staff spacers can only do so much.

@Fourniture That's what Factor for distance above/below bracket is for (in Style -> Page) is for.
If you want to enforce a minimum distance, you can go into Staff/Part properties for the top staff of a group and try setting Extra distance above staff. When all else fails, you can use a spacer.

Obviously the default spacing needs to be correct first, hence this issue.
