I asked that question offtopic in another Poll of mine, but i think this belongs into a new discussion thread.
I know that mpv does very much thinks automatically, if not explicitely set.
But also do we know, that some not-set features can be really annoying, e.g. sync=display-resample or hwdec=auto.
My situation:
I have HDR material (10Bit)
I have a HDR projector (10Bit), which is NOT set in HDR mode for reasons (very bad behavior in HDR mode)
My projector is detected as a 10Bit device and shows up 10 Bit colors in the info-terminal.
I pointed out (in the other thread), that the system works the best in DRM-mode // directly from TTY.
My configuration:
# VideoDriver #
vo=gpu-next
hwdec=vaapi
gpu-api=opengl
gpu-context=drm
# Graphics #
target-trc=gamma2.2
target-prim=bt.2020 # As the projector is manually adjusted to the color profile
target-contrast=15000 # As it turned out to presolve the best details and picture in general in dark scenes
tone-mapping=spline # As best overall brightness without washed colors // BT+ST ones were more washed out.
My Question:
So i still want to use the SDR tone-mapping.
But also i dont want to lose the 10Bit color depth. (For example by means of 8Bit intermediated calculation steps.)
I figured out the setting of drm-format=xrgb8888 or drm-format=xrgb2101010 should do the trick, but:
If i set to xrgb2101010, even on 8 Bit displays i do NOT get an error i'd expected?
If i set to xrgb8888, my 10Bit projector will still throw out a 10Bit picture (verified in its info-terminal), why?
Are there any other options to set to prohibit from 8Bit calculations between the film material and the output display driver?
I hope that everything is clear.
This is basically a "i want to understand the program better" thread. :)
Very much greetings, thank you very much for your help,
Lukas
