Feature Description

In several iterations ago, I was able to simply type tag edits live, now I need to go into properties, find the entree, and apply. this takes a long time when active DJing. what about putting it back to highlight song, correct what you want, fast, easy to understand.

I think you're referring to 'select-and-click' editing. This feature is still present, though it maybe ot reset to Off?
Please check Preferences -> Library -> Track Table View

However, (at least in Mixxx 2.4.x), you can also double-click a label in the decks and the Track Properties will open, with focus on the tag you just clicked and you can start editing right away.

In another report you mentioned you're running Mixxx 2.3.6
I suggest to update to 2.4.2 which has just been released.
