Pylint Error after latest update to 1.83.1

I dont want to use Pylint, yet Python Extension is constantly throwing up the error in running linter pylint. Here is the following error

I tried to change settings.json to this but it still doesnt work

    "python.formatting.provider": "black",
    "python.linting.enabled": true,
    "python.linting.pylintEnabled": false,

How to stop this error. i'm happy with ruff and its working well

Is this actually being displayed to you, or are you just after clean Output panel logs? We're actually ripping out the support and settings in the next release, so this will all be gone in about 2 weeks. Otherwise I would ditch the python.linting.enabled setting and also check other settings such as your user settings, workspace settings, and any remote settings you may have set.

@brettcannon its throwing a GUI error in the bottom panel at the bottom right. Attaching a screenshot. Happy to report back in 2 weeks, but its a constant error popping up

Would you mind trying the Pylint extension? If that's also broken, can you open an issue against that extension as that's what you will need to switch to next month anyway.

The error doesn't occur when i use the Pylint extension. But i thought the whole exercise of ripping out the linter was to give users flexibility on what linter they like. I personally like to use ruff as its very fast and uses less memory compared to pylint. I dont want to use the pylint extension going forward. How can we change the settings to suppress the GUI error?

Sorry, I misread your opening comment. If you don't want Pylint then just don't install the extension. As I said, the issue will be gone before the end of next week when we push the new version of the extension. You can also switch to the pre-release version which already has Pylint removed.

You also don't need to set the "python.linting.enabled": true setting, so deleting it should also turn off trying to use Pylint (once again, that setting will be gone in the next release).

Thank you @brettcannon . Can manage the error for a release cycle. VSCode has been a great help through my python work and thanks to you and all the team for maintaining the software.
