DetailsList controlled selection

Is there a way to implement the DetailsList to be fed some array of items that reflected the current state of selected items but prevent the selection of the row items changing from simply selecting/deselecting that rows checkbox? Like the selection state of the list can only be changed via some other way outside of selecting the checkboxes.
