Hello, Marc

I am using your driver effectively since v. 0.0.0.2. It is really great!

First of all i would like to tell my config, so you can update your wiki here. A am using openwrt-driven TP-Link TL-WR1043ND router an a sane server with an Epson CX9300F as a scanning device. A Windows 8.1 plus Vuescan x64 acts as a client. All works great.

Also afer installation i encountered a known bug when one cannot complete installation because of hidden Windows Action center. Is it possible to add instruction for this problem to the wiki?

Thanks for your hard work!

Hello, thanks for your great feedback. I added the "Epson CX9300F" to the wiki page now, but you could have also done that yourself. ;-)

We could create a wiki page regarding the Windows Action Center, sure. I already added a message about it to the installer for the next version. You could try this version on Windows 8.1 to see if it pops up: wiasane-v0.0.0.5-16-gfab7d78

@unnamedfeeling Thanks for creating the Issues wiki page. Were you able to try the new installer?

@mback2k I was able to test a new installer on another machine with a fresh install. Works perfectly. Message in Windows (8.1 w/ Update 1) appears as it should. My server was found in about 1-2 minutes - i tried to connect to it wia wifi plus i have a login/password protection to connect to it. My password length is about 15-18 symbols. So i think that login-password works perfectly too.

Also i found that others were complaining about scanning quality so i tested this also. I used Finereader 10 plus native Windows WIA interface. 600 dpi scan was made. No artifacts or anything else. It took some time after a scan was finished to send picture to my client. WIA interface was "hanging" for about 1 or 2 minutes but then everything waent back normal. I think i will also test it with other programs too in the next couple of days.

As for me - i dont like many notifications on my pc, so i disabled showing Action center on a desktop. I saw a new popup after the installation finished. Maybe the text in it should look like this: "Now the installation of the driver is almost finished. To finish it you must configure connection to your sane server. In the notification bar (near the clock applet) should appear new popup asking you to complete the installation of a new device. Click it to configure connection to your sane server. If this didn`t happen for some go to "Control panel">"System and security">"Checking the status of your computer" or open Windows Action center in any other convenient way and click "Click finish installing new device" to configure connection to your sane server."

I think it will be more informative for all kinds of users. Please be warned - i am using a russian version of Windows, so there may be mistakes in names.

Thanks for the intensive testing and feedback, @unnamedfeeling. Since you are using authentication, which version did you test with?

Regarding the Windows Action Center: Thanks for the message proposal, I will try to improve the popup once I have access to my Windows 8 VM. My personal goal is to find a way for the installer to automatically launch the required install action or show the pending actions in action center.

@mback2k As of wiasane - it was the installer you proposed to use.
As of sane - it is sane-backends - 1.0.22-3 and sane-frontends - 1.0.22-3.

It would be cool if the configuration window appeared automatically after install.

Regarding the WiaSane version: That sounds interesting, since authentication is actually only usable since wiasane-v0.0.0.5-50-gb22d164, please see issue #1 for more information. If your saned server enforces authentication, you should not have been able to actually scan prior to that version.

Rechecked my server config... My bad - its my lack in knowledge of linux systems. So it isnt working as it has to. :)

Also tested - Finereader + Windows WIA: Preview works, 300 and 600 dpi grayscale scan works. Photoshop import WIA - preview works fine, color scanning 75, 300, 600 1200 dpi works fine, but 150 dpi tells that this is inappropriate resolution and automatically changes it to 75 dpi. Same for grayscale.

So, did you check if authentication works with the new release wiasane-v0.1.0.6?
Otherwise your test results sound great, thanks. 150dpi might not be supported by your scanner. I will close this issue for now, please report any issue regarding authentication in #1.
