I've been at this all day and haven't been able to crack it. Has anyone come across a way to take an existing AAF and manipulate the existing content, for example, creating edits, reordering clips, etc. Very basic NLE things. I was surprised to find that changing the length did not actually result in a shorter clip in the timeline upon re-import into avid.

You might need to change the mobid of your composition your editing. Did you trying importing into a different bin? Media Composer might be re-using the exported Timeline.
