I use transcode-video to convert to mp4. Occasionally the input file is already in mp4 format. I wonder if you could implement a passthrough for formats that are already correct?

I'm not sure what you're asking here. There's already a --copy-audio option, and if you're wanting to also copy the video to the same container format, then that seems like a noop to me. FWIW, the primary point of the script isn't to change container format, but to transcode the video/audio. If you just want to change container format, then ffmpeg -c:v copy -c:a copy is a better approach.
