HomeKit person detection not working at night?

I have a few hikvision cameras setup through the rtsp plugin.
They stream well day and night (ir).
During the day motion events are raised and HomeKit secure video (hsv) is able to properly do person detection.
However at night (when the camera uses IR) the person detection is not working.

Is it only good for daytime images? Any ideas?

I'll answer this myself. Firstly the discord is far more active than here.

I found the motion detection area (bounding box) is very small by default casing lots and lots of false detections. These must overload HKSV and you get no person detections.

By increasing the motion area it reduced the false detections and HKSV is pretty reliable now day and night.
But I'd say night is about 60% as good as in daylight.
