Base source code refactoring

According to the newly proposed lint job (via Pylint) the source code needs some minor refactoring; the detected flaws can be seen here (similarly for version 3.9, 3.10).

This issue refers to the required steps needed to make the base source code rateable at a scale of $90$% and higher.
