Instructions For Compiling and Installing the Idle Screen Project On UNIX
Variants
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
To compile the Idle Screen Project on any of the UNIX variants, the
following programs and libraries will need to be installed:
* XScreenSaver available at http://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/
* Qt 4 available from Trolltech at http://www.trolltech.com/
* The Free OpenGL User Toolkit (GLUT) (for the GLUT demos only) available at:
http://freeglut.sourceforge.net/
* GNU Make
* GCC
* Doxygen (to generate code documentation) available at:
http://www.stack.nl/~dimitri/doxygen/
After you have the prerequisites installed and working, simply type the
following from the base directory:
./configure
make
make install
If you do not install as root, you will need to manually add the screen savers
to ~/.xscreensaver. Installing as root will add all of the screen savers to
the system list, if ./configure can find update-xscreensaver-hacks. If it
cannot, you will need to either execute the command yourself or manually
update the system config.
The ./configure script has several options, which can be viewed by typing
./configure --help
Each screen saver can be enabled or disabled. The same goes for the GLUT
versions as well as the Doxygen documentation. You can also disable the
ability to modify the XScreenSaver config file to add in the screen savers
in the project.
