I've got the most recent/updated versions of Steam's OS on my Deck. This is the first time I've tried using this mod.
The skin-ifying does not seem to work properly.
It doesn't seem to show the final icon in the gear menu (the one where you can actually pick the theme for this mod from).
Once a controller is connected with BT, it won't display the icons requested to overwrite, unless --
If the BT connection from the controller times out, and you are returning to the OS from an app - it will display properly ONLY until you reconnect the BT controller. Then it returns to whatever symbols are default for the controller in question (IE shows Xbox for Xbox controller). Found this out because I was watching Plex and it had the "correct" PS symbols as it came out of the Plex app when I confirmed to exit it from my keyboard. Woke up my controller, and it returned to Xbox input (I have an 8bitdo, which identifies as Xbox).
I tried to do this with having set the theme.json to default to a custom PS pack I made, and by manually changing to it in the menu, and neither option seems to resolve the issue.
See attached for my files. I have put the theme.json in the main zip root for convenience only. It is place appropriately in the hierarchy on the Deck itself.
