Domains of Expertise

Complex Systems; Multi-agent Systems; Multi-agent modelling and social simulation; Human behaviour modelling and agent based geospatial social simulations; Agent Based Social Simulation for Earthquake Crisis; Pedestrian evacuation simulation; Agent based multi modal logistics/transport and supply chains; Graph theory and comparison of semantic networks/graphs; Geospatial modelling, analysis and visualisation (2D/3D); Geographic Information Systems (GIS); Remote Sensing (RS) and Image Analysis; and Geomatics; Multidisciplinary Research.

About Me

I am a computer scientist engaged in multidisciplinary research developing multi-agent models, simulations and geovisualisations of complex systems. In particular, I specialise in the modelling, simulation, visualisation and geovisualisation of: (a) human behaviour in the context of (i) pedestrian evacuations during seismic crisis, and (ii) daily activities related to household energy use; (b) multimodal transport and logistics; and (c) ensemble forecasts of coastal flooding phenomenon. I also worked on graph theoretic methods focused on the modelling, analysis and comparison of semantic networks/graphs applied to the governance structures of European ports.

Currently, I am a postdoctoral researcher at IGN, LASTIG Lab the ANR-ORACLES Project. The research is on Visualization of ensemble forecasts of the coastal flooding phenomenon. Its a collaboration between IGN, BRGM and MeteoFrance.

Previously, From May 2022 to April 2024, I was a postdoctoral researcher at IRD, UMMISCO Lab and EDF-Lab Paris Saclay Team: SMACH for the DynaMo Project. The research is on the generation of synthetic (a) daily activities and (b) populations, for use in the multi-agent for modelling and simulation of human behaviour related to energy use/consumption.

Also, from January 2000 to April 2022, I was a postdoc for the Porterr Project at LITIS (Laboratoire d'Informatique, du Traitement de l'Information et des Systèmes), ULHN (Univ Le Havre Normandie) Team: RI2C and INSA (Institut National des Sciences Appliquées, Rouen Normandie. The research focused on multi-agent modelling and simulation of logistics flows/traffic in the Seine Axis and the ports of Normandy, France and dynamic semantic graphs, graph comparison (governance structure of ports).

My PhD in Computer Science in 2019 on Multi-agent modelling of seismic crisis was completed at the Université Grenoble Alpes, France. The PhD research integrated computer, social, geoscience and geographic information sciences to model and simulate human behaviour during seismic crisis. During the PhD, I was connected with two laboratories: LIG (Laboratoire d'Informatique de Grenoble), Team: MAGMA/HAWAI and (PACTE), Laboratoire des sciences sociales, Team: Environnements. The research was also part of the MUDAMO Project

Both my Masters degree in Remote Sensing in 2008, and my Bachelors degree in Geodetic Engineering in 2000, respectively, were obtained from the University of the Philippines, Diliman.

At the moment, I have accumulated 8 years experience in computing, and agent based modeling and simulations using the GAMA-platform. This is in addition to my previous initial 13 years experience in GIS and RS, consulting, research and academia where I extensively used proprietary and open source GIS/RS software. Before my PhD, my previous roles in the Philippines included University Research Associate, University Extension Associate, Laboratory Manager (Remote Sensing and GIS Laboratories), Remote Sensing (RS) specialist, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) expert, Python Programmer, and geo-web mapping applications developer. I was also a Lecturer/Instructor in some undergraduate (BSc Geodetic Engineering) and graduate (MSc Remote Sensing) classes, and training courses (Remote Sensing, GIS, Web GIS, Python Programming for Geospatial Applications).

I am currently based in Bondy, Île-de-France and Le Havre, Normandie, France.
