So after mulling it over (eesh, it's been over half a year), my thought is to make a more perlish (and for that matter, most 21st century languages) interface. I'll keep the original pseudo-Fortran calls, but add functions with key=>value parameters, so we don't have to worry about which order leaves which parameters with their defaults.
