Using the "credientials plugin" inside the current Jenkins release and configuring an account for the connection to Bitbucket Server (stash) will led to "invalid credentials" message, if the password includes special characters, like "§" in this case. Changing it into an alphanumerical character works as expected.
Best regards,
Jan

@gromittm@scaytrase can you elaborate on what "special characters" means? I'm getting 401 errors when using a new Jenkins credential I just created that uses same user/pass that I have verified works fine in the https web interface. But my current pass includes an exclamation point (!). I'm assuming that since that's ASCII it's not a part of this issue. Right?
Good day to you.
