👋 Hello! Long time.
If you have been following this project, or you're just discovering it, you may have gathered that there has not been active development on this project. There are several reasons to it:
At the time of writing, the bot has still been online and deployed onto Heroku servers. More on that in a bit. The main hurdle has just been having universities use this system and integrate into their authentication system - so starting with my own university (Glasgow) that uses Shibboleth - so that usage and development could be driven. The attempt to propose this has there since day 1, and over the years, getting in touch with numerous people has still unfortunately led to nowhere and so it is difficult to keep hope. This was developed in my first year, and now I'm in my final year, about to graduate. However, it has been announced that Heroku will be discontinuing their free tier platforms, and as much as I'd love to pay for it to run - it's of no use to be blunt. Hence, the bot is most likely to go offline, while the repository will remain available and of course support is available.
I started this repository as my first proper application-based project for me to learn Python. I had seen some seniors from highschool making a chatbot for their university, and I was inspired by that idea when I started uni and tried to have my timetable ready to use. Throughout the development, I was learning and getting inspired by the forms of software engineering, and I'm really proud of where this project is & how it grew, still being my first project (also using Python for the first time).
Thank you for being there, and hopefully the community can come together to bring this project to daylight. 💪
