Unable to access admin panel - error thrown

The bug

I can not access the immich admin console through the web interface at all, nor have I ever been able to on my install.

I am running in a docker container on ubuntu with an NFS mounted upload located specified in my env file.

I get the following error on the webpage

I have attempted to recreate the docker container using local storage but it does not seem to fix my issue.

Not really. Are the filesystem permissions correct? Is your NFS mount actually working properly?

Do you mind showing the output of the ls command at /usr/src/app/upload when you attach it to the container?

For the record, same problem on a cifs share... But my pictures are still available, the .env file is not even on a remote share... It's not specially aimed at immich, but I hate docker more and more, you have always some stuff like that about storage... it's tiresome...

I assume you are using Windows? If yes, I think Docker just doesn't work well with Windows in general. For a better experience we strongly recommend running Immich on a Linux based OS

I am, docker desktop +wsl2. On paper, yes I agree with you, but honestly it's not very good at all under a native linux machines either given all the problem I see here and there. It's adding some moving pieces and point of failures which are not needed at all from my PoV :/ And you depend of docker not screwing up an update, which they have done by the past... Now, maybe a native install under linux without docker, yes. But I don't want to deal with that tbh, my servers are under windows OSs; mostly. And I don't want to fireup hyper-v to run a linux vm with immich natively on it...

Yeah, YMMV. There are reasons why we recommended Linux for Immich instead of Windows. Similar to some enterprise applications like SolidWorks, AutoCAD or Altium, hosting them on Windows is easier on Linux because they are built with Windows users in mind 😃

Sure. When I googled to troubleshot some stuff on immich (network/storage access mostly), I find the same amount of post of people having problems with network drive, while running docker under linux. Granted the solution might be different, some different syntaxs, nfs vs cifs, etc, but it's far for problem-free. Other projects have similar problems that seems related to the docker "design", rather than the project itself. And, how many time I found topics like "I upgrade docker from version x.xx to x.yy, i've some new problem", which are related to docker and not the useful app. Immich (and other projects using docker) are great, but I don't want to add a layer of problem if I don't need to.

So, I'm ready to troubleshot the WSL2 setup, but not install a dedicated linux machine if in the end I need to run docker on it, I will have the same kind of problems which come with docker anyway.

Now, don't get me wrong, it's not a dig at immich. Honestly It's an awesome project, and all the ml stuff seems nice. i want to get back the control of my photos, so, it's the main project out there, and kudos to you and the team working on it !

Immich has become an attractive application for new users who are getting into self-hosting, and it is a learning curve with many topics. So, the problems you have seen often come from the concepts of file system, file system mounting, networking, Docker, etc., which can be new to some users and require reading and tinkering to understand them properly. We expect some users to struggle with new material, so we are always here to support them and show them the material that is needed to learn and troubleshoot if needed.

Granted, there were some issues due to bugs in the code, but you don't often hear from the silent majority who have more experience with hosting stuff.
