500 GB file tar creation

Hi,

I am using TarOutputStream in c# to create 500 GB tar archive (uncompressed). I have lots of files.
The whole process started really fast. Over the time it started slowing down the bigger the output file was becoming ...

I just wanted to ask you if you have ever checked efficiency of such a creation of that big file. I am searching currently
to find the culprit and any idea will be appreciated.
