Since we are reliant on the union for access to the web server as well as the database, and since they go down without warning or explanation, it'd be handy to have a simplified version of the site that is capable of serving information from the backup database. It wouldn't need to be pretty or fully functional, just make core data e.g. trip reports readily accessible. Might even be possible to host on github pages
I haven't thought much about how much work this might be yet.

Pretty cool to have a static-site backup though. Databases get corrupted
all the time. The underwater club went through like 3 different websites
(each time dropping the old content) 2005-2015.
I used to have some scripts to generate the original / legacy PHP form of a
trip report, from the rendered form of the new website, to try and keep the
'old' site up to date. But they were never 100% perfect, so would have
required a lot of faffing around with each individual report.
