Compatibility with Notepad (Windows)

It seems that Left uses another type of line break than Notepad. It would be great if you can make Left compatible with the files created by the default text app of Windows

I cannot test this issue reliably on Windows, as I only have access to Linux and OSX.

The issue is that Windows and Notepad in this case use "\r\n" as end of line character and linux uses "\n" (also known as CR LF vs LF). There is really no way around it. The weird format of what displays Notepad just means that the software does not recognize the end of line character, so everything is inline.

What could happen is Left to automatically convert end of line character based on the platform you are on when you save a file (and when you open).

It is an opinionated change.

Try creating an empty file as .txt and then open it in left. I've been using it for a while and I think i've never come across that problem.

Tried to replicate this on a fresh Windows 10 install.
Created a new file in Left, saved it (as test.txt) and opened it in Notepad.
Notepad automatically identified Unix line endings and displayed it correct:

The link posted by @X-F0RCE suggests that this is something the MS people have been working on and have solved.

I can confirm this issue does not happen on my machine. Windows 10 20H2

This is not happening on my Windows 11 device either (OS build 22000.556).
