non-recursive prune

How would I do a non-recursive prune? Do I need to write my own function for that?

There's no function like that in stdlib. Defining your own is very trivial. If you don't use it all over the place it might even be not worth defining as a function just a simple ad-hoc expression, especially if you care just about a specific type of "empty" value.

Array/object comprehensions are good building blocks here. E.g.:

local arr = [1, 2, 3, null, [], [2], {}, { foo:: 42 }, {foo: 42}];
[ x for x in arr if x != [] && x != {} && x != null]

I think a separate function would be cleaner if we were to add this functionality.

What would you call it? PruneNonRecursive or maybe PruneShallow?

Hmmm... maybe shallowPrune? I definitely don't want a negative there.

I wish that prune was by default shallow, and there was a recursive prune. I feel like that is the more common use case
