name correction suggestion for [none] #4
Comments
@seltmann thanks for sharing. I was able to reproduce your observations via https://www.globalbioticinteractions.org/?accordingTo=https%3A%2F%2Fscan-bugs.org%3A443%2Fportal%2Fcollections%2Findividual%2Findex.php%3Foccid%3D30670253&interactionType=interactsWith . Also, see attached screenshot with related result. The "None" name is provided by https://scan-bugs.org/portal/collections/individual/index.php?occid=30670253 in the associated species field. GloBI currently shows any name provided and for unresolved names, a link "suggest correction" is provided below the possibly invalid name. Two questions for you:
|
@jhpoelen I submitted a comment on SCAN for the record but this is something that requires a login. None, unknown, and other words could be auto-curated in some way so they are not listed. |
Ok, so you are suggesting to fix the issue on the Symbiota end? |
I was thinking of a filter on GloBI for not knowing words. Also, worth a discussion with Symbiota. I started an issue: scan-bugs-org/scan#51 |
@seltmann it'd be easy to implement such a filter, but then you wouldn't be able to discover these funky names. Also, it would introduce an invisible bias in the data. If you have a strong opinion, please let me know, but for now, I consider this to be a data provider issue. Please advise. |
We can leave that way, but part of me sees it as there is a technological solution that can reduce work for data curators. It would be interesting to hear other opinions. |
Sounds good. I labeled the issue with "question" for now. Perhaps you have a better idea on how to label this issue. |
Hi!
I found a taxon name
none
on a globi page. After reviewing the data sources and relevant taxonomic tools like the globalnames resolver, I think that suggestion below might be helpful. Thanks!
Should be removed as "none" is not a taxon.
