Malware detected by Microsoft on "GitlensPro.gitpro-ai-tools" and other extensions with "GitlensPro" extension name

GitlensPro.gitpro-ai-tools, GitlensPro.gitlens-monocharged and other extensions were recently flagged as Malware by Microsoft - see https://github.com/microsoft/vsmarketplace/blob/main/RemovedPackages.md

Can you please elaborate on what happened here, was that just impersonation and name theft of the rogue actors, was it a supply chain attack or something else?

Given the recent VScode extensions attacks, the community will greatly benefit from some clarity.

Those extensions are not published by us -- GitLensPro is this publisher: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/publishers/GitlensPro, though it looks like all of their extensions have been removed. There is no association between us (GitKraken/GitLens) and this publisher — they apparently just decided to use our brand to trick people.

That's what I thought, a name theft, which is very common these days. It's good to spread the word so community is informed.

BTW, can it be reported to Microsoft so they take their extension down, when they steal your name?
