Languages not detected

Hey!

I have two repositories where the language(s) weren't detected. In this first one, CSS wasn't detected and I find it odd, although it's the one I'm least concerned about.

But in this second one, I have HTML, CSS and JS in the docs folder, which I understand that I followed the steps to detect the languages, but none of the attempts worked.

First I tried this in the .gitattribute

docs/** -linguist-vendored

Then this

docs/** linguist-detectable

And finally

docs/**/*.html linguist-language=html
docs/**/*.css linguist-language=css
docs/**/*.js linguist-language=javascript

But still none of the languages appear.

Probably something I'm doing wrong or ignoring, but I already tried what I got in the troubleshooting solutions.

I'm sorry if the question/solution is too simple or repetitive, I know it's frustrating.

This is because your CSS file has some very long lines which means Linguist will think the file might be minified and thus considered generated:

linguist/lib/linguist/generated.rb

Lines 170 to 176 in 8e7ffb3

	def minified_files?

	(lines.inject(0) { |n, l| n += l.length } / lines.length) > 110
	else
	false
	end
	end

You'll need to either wrap these lines under 110 chars or tell Linguist they're not generated.

You've tried all but the right override 😉 Linguist considers files in docs as documentation, so that's the override you need to negate.

For a few minutes I managed to see it, but I'm not sure if it was because of other changes in the repository, but it's no longer visible.

I used this, assuming it was the right option, but it is no longer visible.

docs/** linguist-documentation

Wrong way round. You're telling linguist to do something it already does, you need to negate the attribute:

docs/** -linguist-documentation

You may need to push other changes as changing just this file has been known not to clear the cached data across all servers.
