Is there a parameter that controls word "gapping"?

When I use Whisper as a command interpreter, I would like it to handle word gaps less aggressively. For example, I say the word "erase" very clearly and alone and pass off to whisper, and it likes to interpret this as "he raised" or "you race". In other words, there's something going on with Whisper's delineation algorithm for word separation. If there was a parameter to tweak this, it would help in command mode.
