Best way to get metadata-based list pages?

I use a number of custom key-value metadata fields in my articles (e.g. 'Writer', 'Artist', 'Rating') that I would like to be clickable, leading to list-view pages, just as you can already do for Authors, Categories, and Tags.

I've been reading the docs, but I don't think this is supported out of the box, and I couldn't find an appropriate plugin either. If I glance at the code, I suspect that the way to go about this would be to add my own URLWrapper objects, seeing if it is easy to expand contents.py with authors/categories/tags-like behaviour, but for my own metadata fields.

But before I even think about if I want to dive into that, I thought I'd ask here first if this indeed the way to go, or if I am missing some blindingly obvious alternative solution to what I want.

Yes, you can use custom metadata tags inside your articles. After adding these tags, you should modify your theme's templates accordingly to utilize them.

Yep, I am already using custom metadata tags in my theme. But I was wondering specifically about having additional list-view pages for those tags. I.e. if I use a custom 'Rating' tag, I want to be able to click on an article's three-star rating and then be sent to an index page that lists and links all the three-star articles. I don't think I can do that out of the box without also adding code to generate such index pages?

Exactly, for those things you will need to modify the theme templates.
