i think that's not as easy as it sounds, as it would need to get the font from somewhere, distinguish between a character and an value for the bar, but oh boy, that would be exactly what i am searching for.

Text support could cover both scenarios; fonts like Nerd Fonts have enough icons that they'd cover most cases. This is what waybar does: supports fonts-only, but Nerd Fonts can be used to render all sorts of icons.

Still doens't sound easy tho.

If you are looking for icons I would suggest these two projects:

I think I'll keep the wob minimal, without any text or icons - appealing to the minimalist user. Adding it would require to redesign wob completely to just end up looking like projects above.
