release dates

Hi,

can anyone shed some light on the expected release dates of:
glassfish 7.0.26
glassfish 7.1.0
glassfish 8.0.0
?

Also I wonder why JDK 25 isn't mentioned on the front page for 7.1 and 8.0?

Hello, @kbachl, thanks for asking.

We've been working on GlassFish 7.1.0 and 8.0.0 in parallel. The latest M1 release of 7.1.0 states that Java 17 to 25 will be supported. That includes Java 25: https://github.com/eclipse-ee4j/glassfish/releases/tag/7.1.0-M1. Is there any other front page you meant?

We planned to release GlassFish 7.1.0 much sooner but we got delayed by multiple infrastructure issues we needed to address. Maven Central changed the way to deploy artifacts and we needed find a way how to update our release jobs and then update them all, not only for GlassFish but for all individual components like Grizzly or HK2. We also had troubles with Jenkins which powers our CI, where the Eclipse infra team had some issues, migrated Jenkins to another underlying infrastructure, and it's still not stable enough to progress at full speed. However, we also restructured our CI jobs to add less burden on the infra, and it seems it's getting better in recent days.

We're now very close to releasing GlassFish 7.1, hopefully a matter of days. We're not happy for this delay. We didn't expect so many infra issues. Trying to release an interim GlassFish 7.0.26 would slow us down even more, because we would have to overcome the same issues, and would need to maintain one more active branch in parallel. So we decided to fully focus on GlassFish 7.1 first, and we also managed to move with GlassFish 8.0.0 in parallel, in synch with 7.1

Have you discussed to move to a "time fixed" release schedule afterwards?
e.g. instead of glassfish 7.1.0, 7.1.0 more a glassfish 7.1.2511, 7.1.2512 release numbering? with monthly releases?
I've seen many big vendors moving to this and I somehow like the idea as one can immeadiately see from when it is

We haven't updated the README yet, because final versions have not been released. I raised this PR now so that we don't forget to update it later: #25788

The thing is that the TCK itself is only suitable for fully running on certain JDK versions. For Jakarta EE 10 that was initially JDK 11 and JDK 17, and later the TCK for Jakarta EE 10 was updated to officially support JDK 21 as well. For Jakarta EE 11 that is currently only JDK 17 and JDK 21.

There are many tests of our own, including a number of tests from the MP TCKs, that we continously run using JDK 25.

We didn't do that specific release numbering, but normally we do monthly releases indeed. Near the end of the month we create a seperate branch, e.g. 7.0.25-PREPEARE, against which we run the TCK and all other tests of course, and if those passes and there are no known blockers (in practice there rarely is in this flow), we release that version.

7.1 really is the exeption here.
