Instant answers calculator does not have suggestions

ddg does not recognize any calculations for search suggestions.
Feeding any permutation of "2 + 10" (or any other calculation) will not give the calculation result in search suggestions. Adding "=" does not change anything either (that sometimes works for google search).
Instant answers are enabled, all search suggestion features are enabled in the browser.
This does not work on duckduckgo.com pages either: I have to perform the search to have a calculator show up. Would appreciate an entry on the calculator feature use on the help pages or at least a clarification on what it can or can not do.
Firefox 131.0.2 with ddg as main search engine, Windows 11 22631.4169.
