Docker Desktop Kubernetes is quite unopinionated. This is nice because you can create a Kubernetes configuration that is close to the production environment. Yet, it takes time and knowledge to set up certain components. For example, if I were a typical developer trying to set up an ingress controller, I would probably be overwhelmed with the task.
A well-maintained Docker Desktop extension could make this process much easier. Let's say this extension provides a plugin system to install components to my Docker Desktop Kubernetes at the click of a button. Close to what you have with minikube addons enable .... The plugin system would define an interface for others to provide an installation method, such as rendering and applying Helm charts, etc.
Typical Kubernetes apps for development in my bubble are:
Kubernetes dashboard
nginx-ingress controller
traefik-ingress controller
log aggregation, such as Grafana Loki
Portainer
OpenFaaS
...
As a Docker Desktop user, I can browse the catalog of available Kubernetes components and install them with a few simple configuration parameters. Or, as an alternative, point the extension to a special file (on the internet) describing an artifact and it's install procedure.
I think such an extension could greatly improve the convenience for developers working with Kubernetes.
