Blog post idea: How to write a backend

I don't know if this is the right place to suggest ideas for Developer Blog posts, but I'd personally like to read about what it takes to create a new Futhark backend. I sometimes get access to neat new parallel hardware—typically with only rudimentary APIs—and wonder, "How hard would it be to get Futhark to target this hardware?"
